Hugh C. Blanchard entered the military service in Massachusetts. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a First Lieutenant in the 104th Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was Killed in Action on July 18, 1918 in Chateau-Thierry, France and is now buried in Aisne-Marne American Cem., Belleau, France.
