Albert Gardner Barnstead was born on August 6, 1893 in Gardner, Worcester County, Massachusetts. He entered the military service on May 21, 1917 and was assigned to Company M. 8th Infantry Massachusetts National Guard. He was deployed overseas on September 27, 1917 and was trasferred to 104th Infantry, 26th Division on February 24, 1918. He was wounded in action on July 19, 1918 at Belleau Woods and died on July 20, 1918 in France at the age of 24. He is now buried in Mount Auburn Cemetery, Cambridge, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA.
