Carroll S. West was born in 1896. He entered the military service in Maine and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Sergeant in the 103rd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was killed while leading a charge during the Second Battle of the Marne in France. He was declared "Missing in Action" on July 18, 1918 and is commemorated on Tablets of the Missing, Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau, France. He also has a cenotaph in Riverside Cemetery, Cornish, York County, Maine, USA.
