William Henry Stone was born on November 22, 1890 in Norway, Oxford County, Maine. He was the son of William Harrison Stone and Theodosia Viola McAllister Stone. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company D, 103rd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died on May 10, 1918 by being gassed in France at the age of 27 and is now buried in Norway Pine Grove Cemetery, Paris, Oxford County, Maine, USA. The Stone Smart American Legion Post 82 in Norway, Maine is named after him. His name is also listed on World War memorial in Oxford County, Maine.
