William J. Sense was born on October 29, 1888 in Alliance, Box Butte County, Nebraska. He entered the military service in Illinois and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Second Lieutenant in the 103rd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died of machine gun wounds on July 27, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
