Elmer Pero was born on February 8, 1897 in Sidney, Kennebec County, Maine. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 103rd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on July 20, 1918 in France at the age of 21 and is now buried in Saint Francis Catholic, Cemetery, Waterville, Kennebec County, Maine, USA.
