Chester J. Lessard was born on April 7, 1899. He was the son of Alfred Alphonse Lessard and Lucy Matthieu Lessard. He ennlisted on June 5, 1917 and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company H, 103rd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died on August 3, 1918 and is now buried in Saint Francis Catholic Cemetery, Waterville, Kennebec County, Maine, USA. His name is commemorated on the Belleau Church tablet in France but his surname is inscribed as Lessord.
