When Ivyl Eldon Jenkins was born on February 6, 1892, in Knoxville, Iowa, his father, Thomas, was 37 and his mother, Nancy, was 35. He had two brothers and four sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 103rd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died on September 12, 1918 and is now buried in St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France.
