Clement W. Gravelle was born on May 29, 1887 in Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire. He was the son of Joseph & Exilda/Azilda (Benoit) Gravelle. Prior to entering the regular army, he was a corporal in the NH National Guard, and had served with the national guard on the Mexican border. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 103rd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died of gas poisoning on May 10, 1918 in France and is now buried in Old Saint Louis de Gonzague Cemetery, Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA.
