When Earle Dexter Farley was born on January 1, 1896, in Nashua, New Hampshire, his father, Charles, was 28 and his mother, Ella, was 23. He had one sister. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company L, 103rd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was Killed in Action on September 20, 1918 at the age of 22 and is now buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Nashua, Hillsborough County, New Hampshire, USA. His name is commemorated on the Belleau Church tablet in France but his surname is inscribed as Farle.
