Millard W. Corson was born on January 6, 1898 in Athens, Somerset County, Maine, was the son of Cyrus P “Perley” Corson and Martha W “Mattie” (Tuscan) Corson of Madison, Somerset County, Maine. Millard sailed from New York with Company E of the 103rd Infantry Regiment on Christmas Day 1917 aboard the RMS Saxonia. At the beginning of the second phase of the Second Battle of the Marne, the Aisne-Marne Offensive, the 103rd Infantry Regiment was fighting in the vicinity of Trudgy and Epied northeast of Chateau Thierry when Corporal Corson was killed in action on 22 Jul 1918. He is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France. He also has a cenotaph located in Southside Cemetery, Skowhegan, Somerset County, Maine, USA.
