Venner V. Tighe was born on July 6, 1898 in Perry, Dallas County, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company D, 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on September 26, 1918 in France at the age of 20 and is now buried in Woodland Cemetery, Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa, USA.
