Franklin Edward Pretto was born on June 19, 1893 in Orono, Penobscot County, Maine. He was the son of Louis N. Pretto and Ada M. Luro Pretto. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company A, 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on July 10, 1918 in France at the age of 25 and is now buried in Riverside Cemetery, Orono, Penobscot County, Maine, USA.
