William Ostrander was born in July 1896 in Connecticut. He was the son of Ora Mable Ostrander Hoysradt. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Sergeant in the 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was killed in action during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in France on 30 October 1918. He is now buried in Salisbury Cemetery, Salisbury, Litchfield County, Connecticut, USA.
