George H. Monroe was born on November 19, 1888 in Macon County, Missouri. He was the son of George Washington Taylor Monroe and Mary Cyntha Wright Monroe. He entered the military service in Wyoming and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was Killed in Action on October 23, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France. He also has a cenotaph located in Mackey Cemetery, Pomona, Howell County, Missouri, USA.
