George Carl Mondzeski was born on April 8, 1894 in New Britain, Hartford County, Connecticut. He was single at the time of his enlistment and was working as a shipping clerk for Russell and Erwin's store. His father was born in Lithuanian and his mother was born in Austria. He fought with I Company, 102 Regiment of the Regular Army and left the United States for France on 1 September 1917. He was wounded on 23 or 24 May 1918 near Seicheprey and was moved to an unknown Base Hospital when he died of his wounds on June 6, 1918.
