Lotus Noble Mobley was born on September 15, 1886, in Hartwell, Pike County, Indiana. He entered the military service in Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Sergeant in Company L, 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division.

Sgt Mobley died on October 24, 1918, and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.

Citation:
The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 9, 1918, takes pride in presenting the Distinguished Service Cross (Posthumously) to Sergeant Lotus N. Mobley (ASN: 240329), United States Army, for extraordinary heroism in action while serving with Company L, 102d Infantry Regiment, 26th Division, American Expeditionary Forces, near Trugny, France, 23 July 1918. Sergeant Mobley displayed exceptional courage in dashing into field under heavy shell and machine-gun fire, and carrying to safety a wounded man.
