George Franklin McGinnis was born on August 5, 1895 in Cave Spring, Floyd County, Georgia. He was the son of W. C. McGinnis and Zera Dather Thompson McGinnis. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died on July 22, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France.
