When Paul Hermon Maynard was born on March 29, 1897, in Massachusetts, his father, Herbert, was 27 and his mother, Lillian, was 20. He had two brothers and one sister. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Sergeant in Company M, 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was Killed in Action on November 11, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
