George Henry Martz was born on May 1, 1895 in Buena Vista County, Iowa. He was the son of Francis Martz and Amy Harriet Ivy Jack Martz. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died on October 28, 1918 in France at the age of 23 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France. He also has a memorial located in Storm Lake Cemetery, Storm Lake, Buena Vista County, Iowa, USA.
