Fred Machie was born on January 29, 1895 in Fall River, Bristol County, Massachusetts. He entered the military service in Connecticut and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in the 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was Killed in Action on October 27, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France. His name is also listed on a World War I monument located in front of Manchester Hospital, Connecticut.
