Ernest Leroy Kent was born on May 28, 1896 in New Sharon, Mahaska County, Iowa. He was the son of Leander Andrew Kent and Mary Merethia Burnham Kent. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I in Company A, 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died on October 27, 1918 in Lorraine, France at the age of 22 and is now buried in Woodland Cemetery, Lynnville, Jasper County, Iowa, USA.
