Gustave C. Holthaus was born on January 20, 1887 in Clinton County, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company L, 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. Holthaus was wounded on July 20, 1918 in the Battle of the Marne and died of his wounds on July 23, 1918. He is now buried in Saint Anthony's Cemetery, Beckemeyer, Clinton County, Illinois, USA.
