Richard F. Grant was born in 1892. He was the son of Volkert James Grant and Mary A. Dwire Grant. He entered the military service in Connecticut and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal in the 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died on July 23, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France. He has a cenotaph with his parents at Saint Patrick Cemetery in East Greenwich, Rhode Island. It states that he was killed in action at Chateau Thierry.
