Edward J. Fitzgerald was born in 1899 in Winsted, Litchfield County, Connecticut. He entered the military service in Connecticut and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company M, 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was declared "Missing in Action" on September 13, 1918 and is commemorated on Tablets of the Missing, St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France.
