When Kossuth Tucker "Kot" Crossen was born on June 23, 1878, in Carbondale, Ohio, his father, Jacob, was 34 and his mother, Samatha (Clendenin) was 28. He was a graduate of Albany High School. He graduated from Medical School, Ohio State University at age 21. He married Edna Bean Mason on May 17,1902, in Athens, Ohio. Captain Crossen was mortally wounded while leading his men at the Battle of Marne. He died on July 24, 1918 at Chateua Thierry, France during the "Great War" (WWI) at the age of 40, and is buried in Alexander Cemetery, Hebbardsville, Athens County, Ohio. The American Legion K.T. Crossen Post, Number 21 in Athens, Ohio in named in his honor.
