John Kosth Bortin was born in 1895 in Russia. He entered the military service in Connecticut and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died on July 22, 1918 and is now buried in Oise-Aisne American Cemetery, Seringes-et- Nesles, France. He also has a cenotaph in Zion Hill Cemetery, Hartford, Hartford County, Connecticut, USA.
