Clarance M. Bixler was born in Rose township, near Shelbyville on Aug. 3,1894 and was reared as a farmer. He was drafted on Sept. 19, 1917 and was sent to Camp Taylor, Ky. On the 16th of November he was transferred to Camp Pike, Little Rock, Ark. Early in 1918, he was sent to Camp Green and about April 1 embarked on the ill fated HMS Moldavia which was sunk by a German submarine. He survived the sinking but suffered from fatal wounds in combat and died on July 26, 1918. He is now buried in Findlay Cemetery, Findlay, Shelby County, Illinois, USA.
