Albert G. Bender was born in 1894 in Johnson, Nemaha County, Nebraska. He was the son of Leo Bender and Sophia Bender. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died on October 25, 1918 during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive in France and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
