Lewis Herbert Aaby was born on October 1, 1888 in Shelby County, Iowa. He was the son of Christen Pedersen Aaby and Zidsel Mary Jensen Aaby. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company D, 102nd Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died on August 25, 1918 in France at the age of 29 and is now buried in Saint Clair Cemetery, Ute, Monona County, Iowa, USA.
