Elbert E. Thomas was born in Greencastle, Putnam County, Indiana. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas of Greencastle, Indiana. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died of disease in 1918 but his current burial place is unknown.
