Robert A. Murray, Jr. was born on June 24, 1894 in South Boston, Suffolk County, Massachusetts. He was 24 years old, the son of Robert A Murraye. He joined K Company, the old Hingham unit in the Fifth Massachusetts, in 1913. He was educated at Hingham and Braintree schools and was a member of the Braintree Council, Knights of Columbus. Private Robert A. Murray, Jr., a member of K Company, 101st Infantry, is reported to be the first Braintree man to die in the Great War. He succumbed to pneumonia on June 13, 1918 after being severely gassed. He is now buried in St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France.
