When Joseph Edward Kaes was born on December 25, 1896, in Boston, Massachusetts, his father, Jacob, was 48 and his mother, Catharine, was 45. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was Killed in Action on November 21, 1918 in France at the age of 21 and is now buried in Mount Calvary Cemetery, Roslindale, Suffolk County, Massachusetts, USA.
