Chester R. Howland was born in 1895 in Massachusetts. He was the son of G. R. Howland and Emma W. Peterson Howland. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company D, 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died of pneumonia on November 20, 1918 and is now buried in Vine Hills Cemetery, Plymouth, Plymouth County, Massachusetts, USA.
