When William J. Cooney was born on February 22, 1888, in Worcester, Massachusetts, his father, Edward, was 26 and his mother, Catie, was 22. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company G, 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was Killed in Action on July 13, 1918 in Chateau-Thierry, France and is now buried in Saint Joseph's Cemetery, Leicester, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA.
