When William S. Carlisle was born on October 18, 1896, in Clinton, Massachusetts, his father, John, was 31 and his mother, Mary, was 30. He had two brothers and four sisters. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Sergeant in the 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died on July 20, 1918 at the age of 21 and is now buried in Saint John's Cemetery, Lancaster, Worcester County, Massachusetts, USA.
