Clifford Newton Bell was born on April 29, 1898, son of Mr. and Mrs. John N. Bell. He entered the military service in Iowa and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He was killed in action in the Wavrille-Meuse sector on October 22, 1918 at the age of 20. He is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
