When Harper S. Bailey was born on January 24, 1894, in Harrison, West Virginia, his father, George, was 33 and his mother, Mary, was 20. He had three brothers and one sister. He enlisted in the Army on May 25, 1918 and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died on November 4, 1918 in France at the age of 24 and is now buried in Mount Lebanon Cemetery, Harrison County, West Virginia, USA.
