Merton Lewis Allen was born on May 28, 1898 in Lincoln County, Maine. He was the son of Ivory W. Allen and Lottie Belle Ames Allen. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 101st Infantry Regiment, 26th Infantry "Yankee" Division. He died on June 11, 1918 in France at the age of 20 and is now buried in Forest Dale Cemetery, Malden, Middlesex County, Massachusetts, USA.
