Howard L. Strohl was born in South Bethlehem to Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Strohl. He received his early education in the public schools, and then graduated from the South Bethlehem Business College in 1913. He immediately entered the employ of the Sauquolt Silk Company as bookkeeper. He enlisted in the summer of 1913 and served in Company M of the National Guards of South Bethlehem on the Mexican border. He was promoted to Sergeant on October 12th and was commissioned as a 2LT the following December. He arrived in France on May 13, 1918 as part of Company D, 109th Maching Gun Battalion and was promoted in 1LT. He was Killed in Action on August 8, 1918 and is now buried in Towamensing Cemetery, Palmerton, Carbon County, Pennsylvania, USA.
