William G. Ruth was born in Yellow House on August 17, 1891 and was a member of St. Paul’s Reformed Church and the Birdsboro Lodge of Odd Fellows. Private Ruth was 27 years of age, the son of George M. Ruth and Ellen (Gechter) Ruth. He worked briefly at Birdsboro Steel as a stenographer and then took over his father’s business at Amityville. He enlisted on October 6, 1917, was trained at Fort Meade and went overseas July 8, 1918. He served in Company L, 314th Infantry, 79th Division and participated in engagements at Malancourt, Mont Fulcon and Nantellois. He died from his wounds received in battle on September 28, 1918 and is now buried in Saint Paul's Church Cemetery, Amityville, Berks County, Pennsylvania, USA.
