Allen Stewart Hartman was born on May 17, 1893 in Harrisburg, Dauphin County, Pennsylvania. He was the son of Jacob Stewart Hartman and Ella M. Flickinger Hartman. He entered the military service in Maryland and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 314th Field Artillery Regiment, 80th Division. He died on October 14, 1918 and is now buried in Meuse-Argonne American Cemetery and Memorial, Romagne-sous-Montfaucon, Departement de la Meuse, Lorraine, France.
