Henry Ackerman was born in 1883 in Kings County (Brooklyn), New York. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in the 288th Aero Squadron. He died on December 3, 1918 in the United State Debarkation Hospital, Staten, Island, following an attack of pneumonia which he contracted on board the Mauretania. He is now buried in Lutheran All Faiths Cemetery, Middle Village, Queens County, New York, USA.
