Clarence B. English was the son of Mr. and Mrs. William H. English and born on February 18, 1899 in Fort Wayne, IN. He enlisted in US Regular Army on April 12, 1917, Fort Wayne. Clarence was sent to Fort Thomas, KY and then to Camp Merritt, NJ. His assignment was to Heavy Artillery, 1st Trench Mortar Battery. He embarked for overseas on August 7, 1917 and participated in the Battle of Cantigny, Second Battle of Marne and St. Mihiel. Clarence was killed in action on September 12, 1918 and is buried at St. Mihiel Cemetery, France. He also has a cenotaph located in Prairie Grove Cemetery, Fort Wayne, Allen County, Indiana, USA.
