Alvin D. Rutledge was born on September 21, 1895. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Sergeant in Company L, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on September 12, 1918 and is now buried in Sutherland Springs Cemetery, Sutherland Springs, Wilson County, Texas, USA. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Vigneulles, France but his name is inscribed as O D Rutledge.
