When Ovid Herrick was born in 1897 in Frankfort, Kentucky, his father, Charles, was 35 and his mother, Elizabeth, was 26. He had one brother and one sister. he served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company M, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He died from his wounds received in battle on January 22, 1918 in France and is now buried in Frankfort Cemetery, Frankfort, Franklin County, Kentucky, USA.
