Edgar Bryan Parsons was born on April 8, 1899 in Glendale Springs, Ashe County, North Carolina. Edgar enlisted in the United States Army at Bluefield W. Va. at the age of 17. He landed in France on July 9 1917. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company C, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action by a exploding shell early on the morning of March 1, 1918, at Maedres, France and is now buried in St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France. He also has a cenotaph James C. Parsons Family Cemetery, Ashe County, North Carolina, USA. Parsons is recognized as the First NC boy to be killed in WWI.
