When Claude C. Mathewson was born on April 18, 1896, in Trenton, Michigan, his father, Frank, was 36 and his mother, Lillian, was 28. He had one son with Edna J. Short in 1919. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private First Class in Company C, 18th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on September 13, 1918 in France at the age of 22 and is now buried in Bloomdale Cemetery, Trenton, Wayne County, Michigan, USA.
