William Nankervis entered the military service in Montana; born in Cornwall, England 1892. He served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Corporal in Company E, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on September 12, 1918 and is now buried in St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Nonsard & Vigneulles, France but his surname is inscribed as Nankerbis.
