Harold McClatchey was born on June 28, 1897 in Bolton, Metropolitan Borough of Bolton, Greater Manchester, England. He arrived in Utah with his parents and lived in Ogden for a time. He entered the military service in Virginia and served in the U.S. Army during World War I as a Private in Company A, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was Killed in Action on February 8, 1918 and is now buried in St. Mihiel American Cemetery, Thiaucourt, France. His name is commemorated on the First Infantry Division monument in Vigneulles, France but his surname is inscribed as McClathey.
